What is an Air Canada Gift Card?

The Air Canada Gift Card is a stored-value card similar to a prepaid card or gift certificate. It can be used to purchase airline tickets or travel options on Air Canada, Air Canada Express, and Air Canada Rouge.

Air Canada Gift Cards are available in both plastic and eGift card format.

You can purchase Air Canada Gift Cards Opens in New Window online in the following denominations:

  • In Canadian funds: individual gift cards can be purchased in amounts ranging from $25 to $2,000
  • In U.S. funds: individual gift cards can be purchased in amounts ranging from $25 to $2,000

You can also purchase Air Canada Gift Cards at Canada Post locations in amounts ranging from $50 to $10,000, or by redeeming your Aeroplan Miles®Opens in New Window at aeroplan.com for specific denominations.

Gift cards purchased from sources other than Air Canada or our participating retailers may not be valid or may have less redeemable value than promised by an unauthorized seller. Air Canada is not responsible for honouring invalid gift cards or values.

Where and how can I use my Air Canada Gift Card?

The Air Canada Gift Card is easy to use: simply provide your gift card number and security code (PIN) at time of payment on either the Canadian or U.S. edition of aircanada.com, or when you call Air Canada Reservations* at 1-888-247-2262 (within Canada and the United States only). You can also use your Air Canada Gift Card:

  • at an Air Canada airport counter in Canada**
  • at Air Canada counters located at select airports in the U.S. **
  • when you purchase a flight with your travel agent

*There are no Call Centre booking fees when you book a flight through Air Canada Reservations.
**eGift Cards cannot be used at airport counters.

What can I purchase with my Air Canada Gift Card?

When redeemed online at aircanada.com, at the airport*, with your travel agent or by calling Air Canada Reservations**, Air Canada Gift Cards can be used to purchase a flight, and to pay for a variety of travel options, fees and services***, including:

  • seat selection
  • change fees
  • Last-minute upgrades at the airport within the check-in period,
  • additional checked baggage fees
  • pet handling fees
  • unaccompanied minor fees

At this time, the Air Canada Gift card cannot be used toward the payment of:

  • Air Canada Vacations packages
  • onboard purchases (e.g. headsets, beverages, duty-free items)
  • merchandise purchased at the Air Canada eBoutique
  • Aeroplan or other reward travel tickets
  • Air Canada Cargo products and services
  • tickets purchased as part of a group booking
  • hotel reservations, car rentals or RBC travel insurance
  • another gift card
  • a Flight Pass purchase
  • Air Canada Maple Leaf Club membership fees

* eGift Cards cannot be used at airport counters.
** There are no Call Centre booking fees when you book a flight through Air Canada Reservations.

Is there a maximum amount I can purchase per day?

Yes, in Canada, the maximum total purchase amount, per person, per day is $10,000. In the U.S., the maximum total purchase amount, per person, per day is $9,999.

How many Air Canada Gift Cards can I use per transaction or purchase?

For ticket purchases, you can use up to two (2) gift cards provided that the total cost of the ticket purchase is covered fully by the (2) two gift cards.

Unfortunately, because of system limitations, when purchasing a seat or travel option for an existing reservation, only one (1) form of payment will be accepted.  If the gift card has a working balance lower than the cost of the fee or travel option, please pay with another form of payment.  However, we will be able to apply the credit from your card and effect a refund following these instructions: After the transaction, you can complete the Customer Assistance Form Opens in New Window, provide the proof of used form of payment and include the details of the unused Air Canada Gift Card or eGift Card to receive a refund of the applicable value to your original form of payment.

For purchases involving multiple passengers/gift cards, it is advisable to make separate bookings. In this situation, customers can use up to two Gift Cards per passenger provided that the total cost of the ticket purchase is covered fully by the (2) two gift cards.

It is also important to know that you cannot consolidate the value of multiple gift cards onto a single one.

Can I give my Air Canada Gift Card to someone else?

Yes. Air Canada Gift Cards are fully transferable and should be treated like cash.

Will my Air Canada Gift Card ever expire?

No. The Air Canada Gift Card does not have an expiration date. However, after five years of inactivity you will need to have your card re-issued. To have an inactive Gift Card re-issued, please contact Customer Relations.

What if my Air Canada Gift Card is lost, stolen, or destroyed?

Air Canada Gift Cards are just like cash. Air Canada is not responsible for lost, stolen or destroyed gift cards. However, if you report a lost, stolen or destroyed Air Canada Gift Card, it may be replaced with the remaining balance upon proof of purchase and gift card number.

Can I receive a refund for any remaining value on my Air Canada Gift Card?

Gift cards are not refundable or redeemable for cash, cheque or credit. The remaining value of gift cards never expires and can be used for future travel on Air Canada.

Can I receive a refund for a purchase I made with an Air Canada Gift Card?

Terms are governed by the rules that apply to the specific fare, or travel option you have purchased.

Are there loading or dormancy fees on Air Canada Gift Cards?

No. There are no loading, dormancy or service charges associated with the Air Canada Gift Card, and the funds on the Air Canada Gift Card never expire until used.

Terms and Conditions for the Air Canada Gift Card (“Card”) and the Air Canada Electronic Gift Card (“eGift Card”)

1. Purchase

Air Canada Gift Cards and eGift Cards can be purchased at aircanada.com, at Canada Post locations across Canada, at Sobeys, Safeway, and Save-On-Foods locations in Western Canada, or by redeeming Aeroplan Miles at aeroplan.com.

Purchasers residing in Canada can purchase Air Canada Gift Cards and eGift Cards in any denomination between $25 and $2,000 Canadian dollars at aircanada.com, between $50 and $10,000 Canadian dollars at Canada Post locations, or between $50 and $500 Canadian dollars at Sobeys, Safeway, and Save-On-Foods locations.  No single Air Canada Gift Card or eGift Card can be purchased for an amount exceeding $2,000 Canadian dollars at aircanada.com or $10,000 Canadian dollars at Canada Post. The total value of the Cards and eGift Cards that may be purchased by any one purchaser at aircanada.com during any one day must be less than $10,000 Canadian dollars.

Purchasers residing in the U.S. can purchase Air Canada Gift Cards and eGift Cards at aircanada.com in any denomination between $25 and $2,000 U.S. dollars. No single Air Canada Gift Card or eGift Card can be purchased for an amount exceeding $2,000 U.S. dollars. The total value of the Cards and eGift Cards that may be purchased by any one purchaser residing in the U.S. during any one day must be less than $10,000 U.S. dollars.

Cards and eGift Cards can only be purchased using an accepted form of payment for which the billing and delivery address are located in Canada and/or the U.S.

Cards and eGift Cards are not refundable or redeemable for cash or cheque once the purchase has been completed, except where required by law.

Cards and eGift Cards are not redeemable for Air Canada Vacations packages or group travel.

Shipping/delivery rates and fees may apply to Card orders and vary by delivery location, and shipping/delivery method selected. Shipping/delivery fees are not refundable.

2. Activation

Cards and eGift Cards are activated only following completion of payment and acceptance of the purchase by Air Canada. Payment is considered complete once the payment processing method and fraud prevention procedures are finalized. Cards and eGift Cards have no value until activated.

eGift Cards are delivered immediately after purchase (or based on the selected delivery date) to the recipient via secure email. However, they can only be redeemed starting 24 hours after purchase.

3. Fraud

Cards and eGift Cards cannot be resold; unlawful resale or attempted resale is grounds for seizure and cancellation of the Card or eGift Card without compensation.

Air Canada is not responsible for cards or eGift Cards that are undeliverable or not received due to inaccurate delivery information, including but not limited to incorrect or inexistent physical or email addresses. In order to ensure that delivery information has been entered accurately, we recommend that customers check all details prior to finalizing their purchase.

Air Canada reserves the right to refuse, suspend, hold for review or cancel any Card or eGift Card order for which fraud is suspected, for cards or eGift Cards mistakenly issued in an incorrect denomination, or for any other violation of the present Air Canada Terms and Conditions.

Air Canada reserves the right to deactivate or reject any Card or eGift Card issued or procured, directly or indirectly, in connection with fraudulent actions

4. Transferability

Cards and eGift Cards are fully transferable.

5. Redemption:

The Card can be redeemed at aircanada.com, at airport locations in Canada, select airport locations in the U.S., via the Canadian or U.S. Call Centres, or through a travel agent if the booking is made at aircanada.com/agents.

The eGift Card can be redeemed at aircanada.com, via the Canadian or U.S. Call Centers or through a travel agent if the booking is made at aircanada.com/agents. However, it cannot be redeemed at airport locations. 

Cards and eGift Cards will not be accepted as a payment method for bookings made via a mobile device or for the payment of self-serve check-in options online, via a mobile device or at an airport kiosk.

Cards and eGift cards are only redeemable at Air Canada in Canada and the U.S. toward the purchase of air travel offered by Air Canada and operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, and Air Canada Express carriers (i.e., Air Georgian, Sky Regional, Exploits Valley Air Services, and Jazz Aviation LP) and/or the purchase of ancillary services offered by Air Canada in conjunction with an Air Canada, Air Canada Express or Air Canada Rouge flight. Air travel and ancillary services offered by Air Canada are limited to air transportation costs, change fees, last-minute upgrades, additional checked baggage fees, pet-handling fees, unaccompanied minor fees, and applicable taxes or any other similar fee that applies to the purchase.

Cards and eGift Cards cannot be used for payment of air travel wholly over the services of any other airline, or for the payment of a ticket which is part of a group booking. Cards and eGift Cards are not redeemable toward the purchase of Air Canada Flight Passes, Air Canada Vacations products and services, Air Canada Cargo products and services, Air Canada Maple Leaf Club membership fees, or for the purchase of third-party products/services such as duty-free, Air Canada Café (e.g., food and beverages), hotel bookings, car rentals and/or travel insurance.

If the price of the ticket is inferior to the value of the Card or eGift Card, the remaining value of the Card or eGift Card is retained until the stored value reaches a zero balance. Once the Card or eGift Card reaches a zero balance, it is deactivated and no further usage will be permitted. If the cost of the ticket being purchased is greater than the value of the Card or eGift Card, the stored value will be depleted to zero value and the difference must be paid with another Card, eGift Card or other accepted form of payment.

Due to system limitations, we regret that a maximum of two (2) forms of payment is permitted on a single booking at time of purchaseWhen purchasing a seat or travel option for an existing reservation, only one (1) form of payment can be accepted at time of purchase. If the gift card has a working balance lower than the cost of the fee or travel option, please pay with another form of payment. In the case of bookings for multiple passengers using multiple forms of payment (of which at least one is a Card or eGift Card), it is recommended that separate bookings be made for each passenger using a Card or eGift Card as a form of payment. It is also important to know that you cannot consolidate the value of multiple gift cards onto a single one.

Cards and eGift Cards will not be accepted if the number is invalid, has not been activated, has been deactivated, is declined or cannot be found within the system.

In the event that a ticket or service purchased (in part or in full) using a Card or eGift Card is being refunded, the value or the unused portion thereof (based on the terms and conditions of the fare being refunded) that was originally paid for by using a Card or eGift Card will be refunded to the original Card number. Customers must retain their original Card or eGift Card until the stored value reaches zero and all travel for which the Card or eGift Card has been used as a form of payment has been completed.

6. Lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed cards

Treat your Card like cash; Air Canada is not responsible for any stored value balance if the Card is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed. If it is lost, stolen, damaged, destroyed or used without authorization, the value will not be refunded.

Airport locations are not authorized to deactivate or replace lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed cards. Any replacement must be handled online at aircanada.com/giftcard Opens in New Window. Replacement of lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed cards may occur only if the customer is able to provide proof of purchase. Proof of purchase must include the unique card number which is located on the back of the card.

Once the request for replacement has been verified and deemed valid, the value that is stored on the lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed Card at the time the replacement request is made will be reissued on a new replacement Card for a fee of $25 and the original Gift Card will be deactivated. Once a Gift Card or eGift Card is deactivated, it cannot be reactivated.

Air Canada reserves the right to reject any claim for replacement of a gift card where there is suspicion of fraud or dishonesty (e.g., stolen or altered card, or false request for replacement). In the case of the delivery of the Card, we recommend that the Xpresspost (Canadian deliveries) or Express mail (US deliveries) option be taken to allow for positive signature receipt of the package.

7. General

Cards and eGift Cards are not credit or debit cards and have no implied warranties.

The stored value loaded on a Card or eGift Card does not expire.

The Card or eGift Card holder or purchaser of the Card or eGift Card agrees that the laws of the Province of Ontario (Canada), without regard to the principles of conflict of law, will govern these Terms and Conditions.

Any dispute relating in any way to a Card or eGift Card shall be adjudicated in the Province of Ontario (Canada) and the Card or eGift Card holder or purchaser of the Card or eGift Card agrees to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of such courts.

Air Canada reserves the right, and the Card or eGift Card holder or purchaser of the Card or eGift Card agrees, that Air Canada may at any time change the present Terms and Conditions or contract with another third party to administer the gift card program.
