Accessible travel
Air Canada is committed to being a leader in accessible travel. We believe in providing our services and reimagining our spaces with accessibility in mind.
Hearing
Special requirements apply if you are deafblind or if you are not self-reliant.
If you are Deaf or hard of hearing, we offer several ways to get in touch when it comes to your reservation.
TTY:
If you have a teletypewriter (TTY), you can contact us with a few simple steps:
- Dial 711.
- After the operator gives you the go ahead, type in 437–880-6224 or 1-833-754-3650 and then type GA.
- The operator will dial the number for you and will let you know as soon as someone answers the call.
- You will then proceed to use teletype to communicate with the operator, and the operator will act as a translator to Air Canada.
Video Relay:
- Open the Video Relay Service application of your choice on your device and enter 437-880-6226 or 1-833-768-2256.
- A video conference call will start between you and the relay operator, and the relay operator will then communicate via audio with Air Canada.
Note: If you have severe hearing loss and severe low vision, you’ll need to contact Air Canada Accessibility Services at least 48 hours before departure1 to get approval to travel.
If you don’t consider yourself to be self-reliant in the context of your travel, you will need to be accompanied by a support person.
At the airport
Airports in Canada offer curbside assistance at accessible drop off and pickup locations. This includes assistance into the airport or to your pickup location. For more information on this service and how to book it, please refer to the accessibility section on your airport’s website directly.
Many airports have hearing loops, sign language and sign language interpretation available. To find out what is available at the airport(s) you are travelling through, please visit the accessibility section of their website directly.
On board
While on board, our cabin crew will give you an individual briefing on safety procedures for take-off and landing, any announcements made during the flight, and meal and beverages services.
All in-flight safety videos have closed captioning. We are also happy to offer in-flight entertainment (IFE) content with closed captioning and audio description where available.
Please note that we may substitute the specific aircraft operating a given flight, so IFE is not guaranteed.
