Air Canada’s hurricane and tropical storm policy
Your peace of mind is paramount when planning a trip, especially when it comes to unforeseen weather events like hurricanes and tropical storms. That’s why we’ve developed a comprehensive hurricane and tropical storm policy for travel within North America or to the Caribbean so you can book your Air Canada flight1 with confidence.
If the U.S. National Hurricane Center/Tropical Prediction Center (NHC/TPC) issues a hurricane watch or a hurricane or tropical storm warning for your destination within 7 days of your departure, you may be able to change your travel dates or your destination or choose from other rebooking options.
If your trip has not yet started
When we post a hurricane or tropical storm advisory on our Daily Travel Outlook and your trip has not yet started, we will waive any applicable change and you may:
- Cancel your reservation
- a. If you purchased a refundable fare, you’ll receive a full refund.
- b. If you purchased a non-refundable ticket, we'll transfer the full amount paid into your AC Wallet or to a Future Travel Credit2 valid for one year.
- Choose a new travel date (subject to availability), earlier than originally planned or up to and including 14 days3 after your original departure date and you won’t pay any difference in fare.
- Choose a new destination - just pay any difference in fare.
If your flight is cancelled, Air Canada’s refund and cancellation policy will apply.
If your trip has already started
When we post a hurricane or tropical storm advisory on our Daily Travel Outlook and your trip has started, we will waive any applicable change or cancellation fees, and you may also:
- Return early (subject to availability)
- Cancel your reservation
- We'll transfer the value to a Future Travel Credit2 valid for one year.
