Ensure your freight moves as booked for shipments transiting or destined to the EU
As of November 1, 2023, all shipments transiting or destined to the European Union (EU) must follow ICS2 requirements. Air Canada Cargo will be reporting cargo data to customs before the departure of the flight to comply with the pre-loading security and safety program.
Shipments that do not receive an EU “Assessment Complete” notification will be held at origin until the appropriate actions are taken, as indicated by the Customs authorities.
In addition to the standard Air waybill requirements, the following is mandatory to ensure your freight moves as booked:
- Good description (“C/ Consolidation” for consolidations or most accurate goods description)
- Harmonized Commodity Code (HCC must be captured as H/ +6 digits on the Master AWB and/or at House Air Waybill level)
- Customers must ensure they have a valid HC Code for EU customs reporting. Additional information for valid codes can be found here
- Consignee trader identification (EORI – Economic Operators Registration and Identification Number, if applicable)
Visit our Customs page for additional details, examples, and links to the appropriate Customs resources.

As of January 28 at 7 a.m. (EST), we will temporarily be relocating the tender/drop-off point for export intact units that would normally be handled at 2580 Britannia Road East, G1-G7. This temporary measure could be in place until February 11.
These export units will now be offloaded at our second facility, AC2, at 2710 Britannia Road East, Entrance 3. All intact tenders/drop-offs will be on G4-G7, from the hours of 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. Any tenders/drop-offs outside of these hours will remain at AC1. All loose-load export cargo that is not tendered already built on a ULD will continue to be tendered at our AC1 facility.
Please refer to the below image for the temporary location.
Thank you for your patience with these temporary measures as we work on future upgrades to better support you and your business. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact cargo.customerservice@aircanada.ca.

On March 1, 2023, all shipments transiting or destined to the EU must follow ICS2 requirements, with mandatory compliance beginning July 1, 2023. This means that air carriers must report all cargo manifest data to customs before the departure of the flight for cargo and mail to comply with this new Customs pre-loading security and safety program. EU Customs will then complete risk assessments on each air waybill and authorize or reject the loading of cargo onboard the flight.
Shipments that do not receive clearance will not be transported on our flights and will be held until the appropriate actions are taken, as indicated by the Customs authorities.

Air Canada Cargo and Emirates SkyCargo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deliver more benefits to their air freight customers around the world.
The MoU, which builds on the airlines’ strategic commercial partnership announced last year, was signed at Emirates Headquarters in Dubai, UAE by Nabil Sultan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo and Matthieu Casey, Managing Director Commercial, Air Canada Cargo.
Under the terms of the MoU, Air Canada Cargo and Emirates SkyCargo will work closely on a number of initiatives, which include expanding cargo interline options and block space agreements, pending any required regulatory approvals. These enhancements aim to offer freight customers of both airlines access to more capacity on a larger combined global network.
Air Canada Cargo will have access to Emirates SkyCargo’s high frequency distribution network through the belly-hold of Emirates scheduled passenger flights to over 140 global destinations, as well as the additional capacity offered by 11 freighters currently in the Emirates fleet. In return, SkyCargo will have access to over 60 cities in Canada and more than 150 cities across five continents through Air Canada Cargo thanks to a fleet of Boeing 767 freighters and the belly-hold capacity of Air Canada’s scheduled passenger flights.
Both airlines bring particular experience in handling unique cargo, such as oil and gas drilling equipment, car parts and pharmaceuticals on their dedicated fleet of freighters or passenger aircraft.
“We are thrilled to be further strengthening our cargo relationship with Emirates SkyCargo. This agreement enables both carriers to work more closely to optimize our respective freighter and belly capacity throughout each of our extensive and complementing global networks. Customers will benefit from these additional synergies by having access to an even greater array of options, destinations and streamlined handling when shipping globally,” said Matthieu Casey, Managing Director, Commercial, at Air Canada Cargo.
“Emirates SkyCargo is committed to being a leading player in the global air cargo industry providing our customers with the highest standards of products and services. Cooperating with Air Canada Cargo will offer our clients added value through more rapid reach to new destinations in Canada via our Toronto and US gateways,” said Nabil Sultan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo.
Since announcing their strategic partnership in 2022, Emirates and Air Canada have implemented a passenger codeshare agreement that spans 46 destinations across North America, the Middle East, Asia and Africa, and have launched a Loyalty program partnership to allow Aeroplan and Skywards members to earn and redeem Miles and Points on all flights operated by Air Canada and Emirates, respectively.

Air Canada Cargo today unveiled a renewed customer reception area at its London Heathrow facility, marking one of the latest investments in improving its services to customers around the globe. The reception area is the first part of a wider project to modernize many parts of its London facility, which is Air Canada Cargo’s largest European hub.
The revitalized reception area in this self-handled facility provides a new customer area to receive trucked shipments. Incorporating many design elements found in Air Canada’s premium offerings at airports, the London Heathrow cargo customer reception area includes a living wall featuring three types of locally-sourced mosses that help purify the air in the reception area, reflecting Air Canada’s sustainability efforts. The new space also includes improved workstations for Air Canada Cargo customer service agents to better serve clients.
“This improvement to our London Heathrow facility is the first of many investments in both customer-facing areas and our operations. The new space better represents the Air Canada Cargo brand and is a clear sign of the airline’s commitment to London as a hub facility as it continues strategically expanding the business,” said John Lloyd, Senior Director – Europe, Middle East and India for Air Canada Cargo.
The London renovations are the latest of several significant Air Canada Cargo investments in 2022 , which includes an expansion of its facilities in Frankfurt and the signing of a long-term lease in Vancouver that will see Air Canada Cargo more than double its space at its key trans-Pacific hub. The new Vancouver facility is expected to come on-line in early 2024, coinciding with the arrival of Air Canada Cargo’s first Boeing 777 freighter.
In 2022, the arrival of two additional freighters allowed Air Canada Cargo to begin serving new destinations, including Dallas, Atlanta, and Bogota. Two factory-build 767 freighters were also acquired in 2022 and are expected to enter service in 2023.
Air Canada Cargo also inaugurated its new cold chain facility at its global hub at Toronto-Pearson as an integral part of a multi-year modernization program at the facility. It introduced temperature controlled Releye containers, part of the AC Absolute solution, for transporting pharmaceuticals, and began offering specialized equine transport services on its freighters.
Air Canada Cargo continues to invest in new technologies and has entered strategic arrangements with several web-based booking platforms that allow customers greater access to available capacity on its aircraft.

Air Canada Cargo will operate flights twice per week to Liege, with service increasing to three flights per week later in the year. Basel, one of Europe's premiere pharmaceutical hubs, will see two flights per week. They will originate in Toronto and have a stop in Halifax.
The routes will connect these European destinations to Toronto and Air Canada Cargo’s extensive global network.

Many of us are wowed by the entertainment on massive IMAX screens. But have you ever wondered how they arrive at the theatre?
Well, the story behind how they get moved is just as jaw-dropping and Air Canada Cargo worked with OEC Canada, a global freight forwarder, to play a starring role in a recent performance.
While Air Canada Cargo moves some pretty large items with its Boeing 767 freighters, the shipment of an IMAX screen from Toronto to Quito in November put the aircraft and the Air Canada Cargo teams to the test. The 44-foot long, 800-kilogram crate that housed the screen was one of the largest item Air Canada Cargo has fit into the 767.
The team at Air Canada Cargo worked with OEC to develop the creative solutions required to have the crate housing the IMAX screen fit inside the 767.
“We had to think outside the box because this was something we never did before, and despite some initial thoughts of ‘what did we get ourselves into,’ everyone on the team bought into the challenge and was excited to solve this puzzle. We felt it would be a real feather in our cap,” said Mamun Ansari, Cargo Operations Engineering Manager at Air Canada Cargo.
“Air freighting one of our massive screens is by no means a regular occurrence for an IMAX installation, but the anticipated premiere of James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ in Quito was certainly a good reason to do it,” said Mark Welton, President, IMAX Theatres. “We wanted to do everything we could to meet the very tight deadlines of our client, and we couldn’t have done it without the expertise of our partners at Air Canada and OEC. We want to thank everyone involved who helped make this happen!”
“OEC and Air Canada Cargo were able to put their knowledge and experience to work to find an outside the box solution to ship the screen to its final destination. In doing so, that saved several days off the shipping time and avoided the need to move the screen through a U.S. gateway, ensuring the screen arrived on site in a timely manner so the show could go on. I am extremely proud of the work done by both our teams to get the job done,” said Marc Bibeau, President and CEO, OEC Canada.
Air Canada Cargo had never transported something this long in the 767s, which meant the team literally had to write the manual on how to properly and safely ship the screen.
That task fell to Ansari, who oversaw the development of the engineering plans for this unique shipment. It took days to put together and included building a mock-up of the crate using ABS pipes to ensure a proof of concept was developed to ensure everything would work as planned. That planning also involved working closely with Air Canada Cargo’s procedures and safety team, who vetted each step of the meticulous plan to ensure it was safe for employees and the cargo alike.
The plan involved using two loaders, placed at a canted angle to the 767, that would simultaneously lift the crate, while a team of up to 20 Air Canada Cargo employees helped manoeuvre the crate into position inside the main deck. After several hours of methodical movements, the crate was in its final resting place and secured for its flight to Quito.
Once there, the team in Quito did an equally impressive job unloading the screen, with their own plan that would use three loaders to safely get the screen off the 767.
“This was a total team effort and everyone at Air Canada Cargo is really proud of this. There was a lot of excitement around this challenging shipment, but the teams all rose to the occasion and executed the plan,” Mamun Ansari said.
Air Canada today congratulated Jason Berry, Vice President, Cargo, on being named Executive of the Year by Air Cargo World, one of the longest-standing publications focused on the transportation and logistics industries.
"This award is a very well-deserved recognition for Jason, which I know he shares with his team. Since joining Air Canada to lead our cargo division, he has demonstrated his ability to build and lead a strong team that is well positioned to drive our cargo business forward. Coming to Air Canada Cargo at the height of the pandemic presented a unique set of challenges, and he rose to meet them head on. He sought out new opportunities, implemented new strategies, oversaw the introduction of our Boeing 767 freighters and furthered investments in technology and our people to position the business for growth and continued success," said Lucie Guillemette, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer at Air Canada.
Under his leadership, Air Canada Cargo posted record revenues in 2021 and continues to grow its business through critical investments in infrastructure and technology. That includes a cold chain facility at its global Toronto Hub, warehouse expansion in Frankfurt and a continued investment in digital solutions to streamline operations and better serve its customers.
Jason joined Air Canada Cargo in January of 2021, and has overseen a tremendous transformation that has resulted in a thriving cargo division despite the effects of the pandemic on the global supply chain. The most visible sign of that transformation has been the entry into service of dedicated Boeing 767-300 freighters, with two in operation and eight more on the way. Air Canada has also ordered two Boeing 777 freighters for delivery in 2024.
To determine the 2022 Air Cargo Executive of the Year, Air Cargo World's editorial team elected four outstanding leaders in airfreight based on notable contributions, such as innovation and growth, made in 2022. Air Cargo World also received feedback from a 300-plus reader survey, which the editorial team used in its final evaluation.
Air Canada announced today that Bolloré Logistics has become the first Air Canada Cargo customer to join the Leave Less Travel Program, which offers corporate and cargo customers effective options to offset or reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to business travel or freight transportation, and reduce their carbon footprint. Bolloré Logistics has agreed to compensate a significant portion of its GHG emissions associated with its projected shipments with Air Canada Cargo with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) which represents a purchase of 620,000 litres in 2022. This participation in Air Canada's Leave Less Travel Program will enable Bolloré Logistics to reduce its Scope 3 GHG emissions.
"We are very pleased to welcome Bolloré Logistics as our first cargo customer to participate in Air Canada's Leave Less Travel Program. Addressing climate change in aviation requires a multifaceted approach, together with the united efforts of many stakeholders. The commitment of companies like Bolloré Logistics is a testament that environmentally-innovative business programs are mutually possible, further helping the aviation sector to build a long-term, sustainable industry," said Jason Berry, Vice President, Cargo at Air Canada.
"At a time when climate awareness is at the heart of the strategy of many companies, Bolloré Logistics is proud to join a program that is financing the future of low-carbon air industry. Through this initiative with our partner Air Canada, we contribute our scope 3 CO2 reduction targets and offer more sustainable transport solutions to our clients," said Patrick Lafrance, Managing Director Canada at Bolloré Logistics.
About Air Canada's Leave Less Travel Program
The Leave Less Travel Program, launched in October 2021 allows corporate and cargo customers to choose the offering they want through a customized approach using SAF, carbon offsets, or a combination of both, through four core actions. To date, five companies have signed to participate.
For cargo customers:
- Calculate: Air Canada tracks and calculates the GHG emissions associated with the cargo customer's freight transportation.
- Select: The cargo customer can choose how they want to mitigate their GHG emissions associated with their freight transportation: SAF and/or carbon offsets.
- Purchase:
- SAF: Air Canada purchases the required SAF volumes and ensures the cargo customer can claim the benefits of its investment.
- Carbon Offset: Air Canada facilitates the purchase of carbon offsets through CHOOOSE.
- Reduce: The cargo customer contributes to their sustainability goals
The Program supports the airline's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, notably Goal 13: Climate Action. Through its Climate Action Plan , the airline has committed to investing $50 Million in SAF, and carbon reductions and removals.
Air Canada has committed to net-zero GHG emissions from all its global operations by 2050, with absolute midterm GHG net reduction targets by 2030 for both its air and ground operations compared to its 2019 baseline.

These ULDs are still the property of Unilode and must be returned. This includes units that are unserviceable or that are currently being used as storage or for other purposes.

Air Canada Cargo is pleased to announce the phase 1 completion of a new expanded cold chain facility in the Toronto hub. The upgraded facility will feature over 30,000 square feet of temperature-controlled areas and an expanded cooler to fully meet the requirements of cold chain shipments, such as pharmaceuticals, fresh food and other perishables.
Throughout the rest of the year, we will further be upgrading it with permanent and temporary racking and begin using the nearby pits for temperature-controlled build-up. Later in the year, we’ll also install x-ray machines so that AC Absolute, AC Pharmacair, and AC Fresh shipments can be accepted and screened directly into the cold chain facility.
To better support your cold chain needs, sections of the cooler will be dedicated to COL shipments (+2°C to +8°C) and CRT shipments (+15°C to +25°C) with an area reserved for active temperature control units.
We are fully dedicated to the handling of pharmaceuticals and other temperature sensitive shipments which is why we continue to be CEIV Pharma certified.
For more information on our new cold chain facility, we invite you to read the full media release posted today or speak to your local Air Canada Cargo representative.
Dear Valued Customer,
Effective April 4, we will be moving to a new email management system at Air Canada Cargo. We don’t expect this change to have any impact on our response times or services, however, we want to share an important change to our e-mail addresses.
Customers who previously used our AC Connect service should note that these emails yyzff.acconnect@aircanada.ca and yulff.acconnect@aircanada.ca will be decommissioned on April 4.
Going forward, please use our Customer Service email cargo.customerservice@aircanada.ca or cargo.serviceclientele@aircanada.ca for all bookings or inquiries unless advised otherwise by your local Sales representative. All other e-mail addresses remain unchanged.
When emailing Customer Service at Air Canada Cargo, here are a few tips to improve your experience:
- Check your junk folder! Our new system will automatically reply to your email and provide you with a case number. In rare cases, these emails end up in the junk folder based on your security settings.
- Only contact one e-mail address when you reach out to us. Our new system will ensure that it reaches the correct Air Canada party and there is no longer any need to include multiple parties for a response.
- Use your case number. If you need to call us about your earlier email or an existing issue, please reference your case number when speaking with the agent. We will be able to retrieve the file based on that specific number.
Our Customer Service Centres remain available from 0600 – 2200, seven days a week, 365 days a year. We look forward to continuing to grow with your business needs.

An Air Canada-operated humanitarian special cargo flight on behalf of Airlink and other aid organizations departed Toronto Pearson International Airport with a final destination of Warsaw, Poland on Wednesday, March 9. Through a partnership between Air Canada, disaster logistics non-profit Airlink, relief organization Project C.U.R.E., and freight forwarder Flexport, medical supplies and hospital beds, humanitarian and medical supplies were loaded onboard the Air Canada Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Medical and trauma supplies destined for a Ukrainian hospital provided by Canadian disaster relief and life-saving humanitarian aid organization GlobalMedic were also boarded.
"Our hearts are with the Ukrainian people in need - all of us have seen the crisis they are facing. Importantly, both Airlink and GlobalMedic have the infrastructure and teams on the ground to ensure that the shipments will get to their destinations right after our flight arrives. We are proud of our employees who have stepped up to help organize the complex logistics, handle and operate this special flight so quickly," said Jason Berry, Vice President, Cargo at Air Canada.

Palletized freight speeds up the tender and retrieval processes at our Canadian hubs. To ensure that skids are available to all customers who need them, we are reintroducing the Skid Exchange Program, with a renewed focus on pallet exchange.
Whenever possible, tender your pallets on your own skids, and if you are retrieving a shipment on a skid you did not provide, ensure that you bring a replacement skid (which can be either plastic or wood), otherwise a fee may be applied.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced the end of Zero-rated AMPS penalty period for freight forwarders. As per the revised Customs Notice 21-15 , freight forwarders submitting electronic house bills for consolidated cargo arriving on or after January 31, 2022, may be subject to Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMPS) when non-compliance is detected.

Freight forwarders who are not already registered and participating in electronic house bills should contact the Technical Commercial Client Unit (TCCU) .

Air Canada Cargo today announced that it has increased handling capacity at its Frankfurt hub by 35% in preparation for the start of service to the airport by its Boeing 767-300ER freighters later this year.

“This represents a significant enhancement for Air Canada Cargo in Frankfurt, a facility that plays a key role in our global operations. It will further enhance our capabilities as we ramp up operations with the anticipated arrival of regular freighter operations into this critical hub,” said John Lloyd, Director, Europe, Middle East and India at Air Canada Cargo.
This new enhancement along with our new freighter routes, has lined up Air Canada Cargo to provide consistent capacity on key air cargo routes, which will facilitate the movement of goods globally.
