AC Wallet

Exclusive to Aeroplan members, AC Wallet can be used to safely store flight credits from eligible unused 014 tickets values, and any associated charges (paid seats, AC Bistro, and Maple Leaf Lounge access).  AC Wallet balance can be used towards the purchase of tickets and ancillaries at aircanada.com, via the AC mobile app and the Contact Centres.

Eligible

  • Fully unused 014 tickets with AC marketed and operated flights, and/or AC marketed flights operated by other airlines; 
  • Air Canada fares filed as creditable; all fare and tax components of unused tickets must be creditable
  • Air only net fares tickets only if fares are shown in the fare calculation box, and in the FARE and TOTAL fare boxes of the tickets.

Not Eligible

  • Basic fares;
  • Fully refundable fares
  • Non creditable fares and taxes, which include fares owned by other airlines even when ticketed on 014
  • Unused tickets with a combination of fares (creditable and non-creditable) 
  • Partially used tickets and eMDs
  • Corporate contracted, Air Canada for Business and IT/BT tickets (no fare tickets)
  • Tickets in ineligible coupon status (void, revoked, suspended, refunded, closed)
  • Flight Pass
  • Group tickets
  • Aeroplan redemption tickets
  • Air Canada Vacations tickets and packages

  • AC Wallet balance is in the currency of Aeroplan members’ country of residence. For unsupported countries, currencies will be converted to Canadian dollars.
  • Aeroplan members can use their AC Wallet to purchase tickets for other people.

Where can I request an AC Wallet for my customers?

AC Wallet can be requested for Aeroplan members, on Air Canada direct channels as follows:

As such, caller authentication process will validate if the caller is the Aeroplan member, a delegate, or someone authorized to use the account.

What if my customers are not Aeroplan members?

Aeroplan membership is mandatory. They must join Aeroplan here prior to requesting a credit to AC Wallet, in the booking cancellation flow.

Instead of a credit to AC Wallet, can the ticket be kept as a Future Travel Credit?

The option of Future Travel Credit (FTC) remains for all travellers. Retention/Open segments must be entered to prevent tickets from purging. Review ticket validity to ensure FTC is used within validity.

For single passenger booking, can I request AC Wallet for a different Aeroplan member?

No, the passenger’s name must match the Aeroplan number.

Can I request an AC Wallet for each customer on a PNR?

For multi-passenger bookings, you can either enter the Aeroplan number of each passenger, or one passenger can pool the credits to one Aeroplan account.

Is the full value of unused eligible tickets credited to AC Wallet?

The credit is equal to the value of the original unused eligible ticket, minus the change fee (change fee is waived in the case of Involuntary cancellation).

What are Creditable fares?

For the context of crediting values of tickets to an AC Wallet, Air Canada fares and taxes are filed either as creditable or non creditable.

Non-creditable fares include Basic and fully refundable fares.

Are taxes and fees also transferred?

There is no change to tax rules. For Air Canada carrier surcharge, such as YQ and YR, those follow the fare rule, with the exception that fully refundable fares as they are non creditable:

Fares owned by Other Airlines renders 014 tickets not eligible for AC Wallet. Can you provide an example?

Example of an ineligible itinerary, ticketed on 014, but includes a fare that is not owned by AC.

To be eligible, 014 tickets must include pure Air Canada flights, or Air Canada codeshare flights operated by other airlines – with creditable fares. 

How do Aeroplan members use their AC Wallet as form of payment?

Aeroplan members must signed in to their Aeroplan account to see AC Wallet as a payment option. They can book a flight for themselves or someone else, or purchase Air Canada travel options* online or on the Air Canada mobile app.

Can travel agents call the Contact Centre to make a booking on behalf of their clients and use AC Wallet as form of payment?

Yes, if they fulfill the authentication process which includes providing their clients’ Aeroplan credentials.

Which travel option can be purchase using AC Wallet?

Seats, meals prepaid at aircanada.com and Maple Leaf Lounge access.

Do AC Wallet credits expire?

Each individual credit in an AC Wallet expires 1 year from the original ticket issue date.

Exceptions:

  • the value of the taxes returned as part of an AC Wallet credit do not expire.
  • credits accrued due to a schedule change or irregular operation, when a refund is applicable, do not expire.

Must travel be completed before credits expire?

No. AC Wallet credits must be applied towards a new purchase before their expiration date, but travel can be completed later. 

When AC Wallet has more than one credit, how does my customer know which one to use?

When choosing AC Wallet as a payment option, Air Canada will always deduct/deplete the credit with the closest expiry date upon payment.

Can Aeroplan members transfer their credit to another Aeroplan member?

No. However, the Aeroplan member can book and purchase a ticket for someone else and apply their AC Wallet credit on the payment page.

Aeroplan members must sign in to their Aeroplan account when making a booking to see AC Wallet as an option on the payment page.

If the ticket cost is higher than the balance on AC Wallet, can 2 forms of payment be used?

Yes, however only one AC Wallet account can be used.

What happens when the currency of the ticket is different from the Aeroplan member country of residence?

At booking cancellation, the refunded currency will be compared to the traveller’s Aeroplan country of residence. If the currency does not match the Aeroplan country of residence, the stored credit will be converted using the rate on the day of original ticket issuance.

What happens when the country of residence changed after customers have accrued credits in their AC Wallet balance?

The currency of the wallet can change to the new country of residence only when all credits have been utilized, including the non-expiring credit.

Is Time of Ticketing commission recalled when the value of a ticket is credited to an AC Wallet?

  • Voluntary cancellation:     effective February 12, 2024, applicable Time of Ticketing is not recalled*.
  • Involuntary cancellation:  applicable Time of Ticketing commission is not recalled.  

*When there are two forms of payment, AC Wallet and Credit Cards, the amount of commission on the portion of fare paid by the credit card will be recalled.

Can Aeroplan members transfer eCoupons or ACTV to their AC Wallet?

No. AC Wallet are strictly used to transfer value of eligible unused tickets and taxes.
