Northwest Territories – Yellowknife (YZF)
There are two Aurora seasons in the Northwest Territories – autumn when the northern lights may reflect in the unfrozen lake and winter when the long nights open up a lengthier viewing window. Each season has its own special attraction. Tip your head back in awe to catch the glittering Northern Lights dancing across the sky. Thanks to its perfect positioning under the Auroral Oval and an abundance of crisp, clear skies, the Northern Lights dance across the Northwest Territories 240 nights a year. The autumn Aurora season lasts from mid August to early October or pair your visit with a variety of winter activities between early December and early April.
Yukon - Whitehorse (YXY)
Your first look at the beautiful ribbons of dancing colours might come on your flight from Vancouver (YVR) into the territory or head 20 minutes into the wilderness outside Whitehorse to watch the Northern Lights at their brightest in winter’s complete darkness. Bundle up and head outside to marvel as the night sky billows with mysterious curtains of rainbow colours from green and yellow to pink and blue. For ultimate comfort, watch the Northern Lights in your bathing suit at the Takhini Hot Springs, soaking in its balmy 42-degree waters.
