Sports Equipment

If checked in separately, each item within the sports equipment category is considered a piece of baggage that counts towards your checked baggage allowance and is subject to all the rules and restrictions that apply to checked baggage. An excess piece fee will be collected at the airport for each piece that exceeds the free baggage allowance on an Air Canada or Air Canada Jazz flight.

Important information for passengers flying on code share flight(s).

Important note: Please be sure to carefully read and respect the following guidelines for packing your sports equipment before arrival at the airport. If otherwise packaged, the item(s) will only be accepted with a limited release form (to be signed at check-in), releasing Air Canada of all liability.

Passengers are asked to pre-register all sports equipment (by checking the "Travelling with sports equipment" box after entering your name and seat preference) at the time of booking or by calling Air Canada Reservations. By registering sports equipment prior to check-in, passengers will benefit from applicable waivers on:
  • the oversize fee for skis, snowboards, hockey sticks, and hockey bags; and
  • the excess piece fee(s) for hockey sticks, ski and snow boots (when carried along with skis or snowboard)
Customers who elect not to pre-register their sporting equipment will not be able to benefit from above-mentioned waivers when checking in at the airport on the day of departure.

With the exception of the above-mentioned waivers for pre-registered items, sports equipment is subject to all applicable Excess Baggage Fees.
