We are working hard to minimize our environmental impact while connecting Canada and the world. Not only does it make good business sense, it’s the right thing to do.

Besides investing billions of dollars in energy-efficient new aircraft—including Embraer regional jets, Boeing 777s, and ultra-efficient Boeing 787s—we have already reduced the emission intensity of our flight operations by 28% since 1990. And we’re well on our way towards our ambitious goal of improving fuel efficiency by an additional 25% between 2006 and 2020.

Air Canada’s ongoing commitment to finding and implementing innovative solutions for protecting the environment is longstanding. In addition to launching on-board recycling and in-house green programs, we have altered taxiing and flying procedures to reduce fuel burn and are constantly seeking new ways to introduce alternative energy sources, as well as environment-friendly chemical substitutes and energy-efficient new equipment such as hybrid ground support vehicles.

We’ve worked vigorously to eliminate weight from aircraft, maximizing each flight load to safely transport the most passengers and cargo possible with the least amount of waste. And we work proactively with airports to reduce noise and its effect on people and communities.
